Independence Defeat Eagles to Advance

CHARLOTTE, NC (May 18, 2016) — The Charlotte Independence on Saturday night beat the PDL Charlotte Eagles 2-0 in the second round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament at Charlotte Christian School. The Independence took the lead 1-0 in the final minute before halftime on a Christopher Hellmann goal, then doubled the score off a Jorge Herrera rebound in the 50th minute.

Charlotte’s Jorge Herrera tallies winning penalty kick in stoppage time against Richmond

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Independence’s Jorge Herrera converted a stoppage-time penalty kick as the host side earned a 3-2 victory against the Richmond Kickers in a chaotic finish on Friday at the Ramblewood Soccer Complex.

Caleb Calvert and Enzo Martinez each added goals for Charlotte while Sunny Jane and Matthew Delicate tallied for Richmond. The Independence moved to 3-2-0 (9 points) overall and 3-1-0 at home while Richmond falls to 2-2-1 (7 points) overall and 0-2-1 on the road.

CHARLOTTE, NC (April 16, 2016) — The Charlotte Independence held on for a 3-2 win over the Charleston Battery at Ramblewood Stadium on Saturday night. Enzo Martinez and Brian Brown gave the Independence a 2-0 halftime lead, while substitute Jorge Herrera added a third goal after the break. But late goals from the Battery’s Romario Williams and Justin Portillo made for a dramatic conclusion, which required the Wells Fargo Save of the Game by Independence goalkeeper Cody Mizell in stoppage time.
